Well I have both of these sitting side by side. Both are 2.4Gh/2MB with 256M video card and Blueray burners. I sure love the bright screen on the FZ290 over the 1530. I am a little disappointed in the Dell in respect to the screen. Sure the 1530 screen is a lot better that my old HP Pavilion 3250 of almost 3 years.

I love the slot loading for DVD's and CD's.
I would call the LCD screen OK but compared to the FZ290 it's by far brighter with the X-BRIGHT HIColor option.

Dell included a nice case that the dell slips into as well.

The Blueray/DVD drive when it ejects is very loose. Never seen one this loose when pulled out.

Trying to decide between the two. I like the dell over the sony except for the screen. May have to wait untill next year.

Non-working AV Instant mode with the blueray option.

As I knew from reading here the Sony sure had a boatload of software installed.

If you have it configured this way (I assume you do) the 8600GT of the Dell will spank the 8400GT of the Sony.

Yes the Dell has the superior video card and a litte larger HD 250GB versus 200. I'm also disapointed in Dell not to have better option for the lcd display when they rolled this out.
