So, it is just one of those things. I am sitting around doing some normal email stuff and I hear this high pitch noise. probably in the range of 10,000hz to 12,000hz (almost what an old television sounds like, but not as loud). And I wasnt sitting by an old television. I brought it in to a room where there was barely any noise and I start searching around my lap top for this high pitch noise. It wasn't the hard drive, nor the fan for the video card. It is the finger print reader making this strange high pitch noise.

Now, I tried everything in my knowledge to disable, uninstall, turn it off in bios. The only this I havent done is taken apart the lap top to disable it. I am just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. It is extremely annoying especially when you can hear well in the higher pitch area. I am wondering if Dell knows how to shut if off. I don't even use the thing. It is pointless!

Also when the computer is thinking it will disappear. Like I can hear the hard drive then the high pitch noise.

    Any fix? Thanks

Welcome to the horrible world of dell xps cpu whine. It is a problem among many laptops but it seems to be especially bad among the xps 1330 and 1530. If you type rm clock and cpu whine in the search box you'll likely come up with few solutions.

But the noise is coming out of the finger print reader. That makes absolutely no sense!
