Haha, you thought I had some to offer. No. It is me on the scrounge for some. Can't seem to find any via google.... there was a 10% Sky one at some point, but I think that's no longer available. :(

Also, any tactics used with Dell reps would be most welcomed. :)

    Thanks in advance,

    Paul

    Hi,

I just ordered the spec in my sig with a rep on the phone yesterday (ringing the Dell Ireland number). A friend of mine told me if you spec everything to the max on the laptop you can then ask for a discount and then after they give you the discount (which is a fixed monetary amount), you can then say that you'd like to buy it without the fastest processor etc. Anywho I got €180 pre vat off the laptop, free delivery and free processor upgrade to the 2.2Ghz.

When on the phone get them to mail you the quote. Don't ask for each upgrade/discount at the one time. Wait for them to call you back. I ordered mine over three days negotiation with the rep on the phone/via e-mail. The last thing I did was remove the 4gb RAM (Dell were charging about 500 euro for the upgrade from 2gb to 4gb whereas you can get this elsewhere for much cheaper and sell the 2gb on ebay)

Hi Mark, thanks for your suggestions.

I just got off the phone with my rep... here's where we're at. I spec'd the following...

    Crimson red LED
    2.2ghz
    2gb RAM
    200 7200rpm hard drive
    Nvidia 128
    Intel® Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-PCI Card
Dell TrueMobile 355 Internal Bluetooth Module
    Biometric Fingerprint Reader

So virtually the same as yours, barr the SSD.

Price online with no discount codes = £1,425.12 inc VAT

Rep is offering for £1,200 inc VAT...

So around %12 saving, though my maths is bad. But yeah, not bad... Still, should I go for more? I notice you also went with 2.2 ghx processor but the performance gain over 2.0ghz is surely negligible?? That could be another £117 saving... although the rep did specify the discount based on 2.2ghz... that's ballzz tho.

If you have their contact details or email address you could contact them and ask them to throw you in the 3 year warranty and you will close the deal. They may offer this to you at a much reduced cost then.

Also, if you don't want to spend anymore money maybe you could think about swapping the 2.2 processor for the warranty.

I also think that the price you have at now is a pretty good deal.

I know that some people have used Quidco to get some cash back but i have never tried that myself but it might be worth looking into.

    Edited to add:
This was the deal that i had from Dell before compensation but mind you i had discounts codes at the time to help me out and you seem to have got a good deal without them. As i wrote though i would try and see if you can push for the 3 year warranty also.
    2.2
    160-5400
    LED
    Wireless N
    3 year Mcafee
    128GS
    Bluetooth standard
    4 year warranty
    current rrp-£1585-got this for £1195

I got the upgrade to the 2.2 Ghz processor for free. If it was me paying it I def don't see the point in paying 150 odd euro for a .2Ghz processor boost....How often is your processor at 100% anywho?

12% is a big reduction. You'll definitely get free delivery even if they say no at first. My bet is if you ring up now and ask for the processor to be reduced to the 2.0Ghz one - you'll save the difference off the price. If it was me i'd leave it until the rep rang me back....

    Thanks again for advice, guys.

My rep's 'supervisor' rang back to offer me a one off, today only deal :D ....a further £50 off. So now it's at £1150

They're calling me back at 5pm. Think I'll take it if they can throw in the 3year warranty. Thanks for that, Rach.
