The MBP is a great machine, however, I have become impatient with screen issues and I'm almost ready to get a full refund.
So, how do the D830 and MBP compare to each other? I love the size, power, and portability of the MBP. I understand that the D830 is larger, but how would its battery life be? I'd probably upgrade to the 2.4 option. How do they compare in gaming capabilities, screen brightness, speakers, keyboard, and other factors?
I was considering a T61p, but the high resolution seemed to make it useless for internet browsing and such. And the D830 seems superior to the T61. Cost isn't a major issue.
I'd appreciate some input. I'm VERY interested in buying the D830. Thanks.
Also, I am entering college as a freshmen and I am buying a laptop for work, internet, music, aim, some gaming, etc. I am not considering other "gaming laptops" because their battery life is inadequate. Battery life is more important to me than gaming capabilities.

The D830's NVS 140M is a workstation class graphics card, so not really optimized for gaming. If I recall correctly, its gaming performance is comparable to the 8400M GS, so it probably isn't going to compare to an 8600M GT.
I think you have to ask what your needs are. If it's just screen issues with the MBP, but you're otherwise happy with it, it might be a matter of just trying to get one that finally works for you, rather than giving up on it entirely.
If gaming isn't so vital though, the D830 should be somewhat capable.
Hard to say how the screens compare, I've never seen a D830 in person. I think an MBP with a good screen though (i.e. without whatever issues you've seen) is probably going to be brighter and crisper, for the most part.

I'm curious, for what reasons do you think the D830 is superior to the T61? I, like you, returned three MBPs because of screen issues, and had to decide between the D830 and T61. I think I've finally decided on the T61, though.

I have a Dell Latitude D830 and according to the Battery life meeter (I have not done a battery life test yet) with a 9 Cell it can get 7 Hours. Now since its according to the battery life meter I am not sure if its accurate. (That is with Dell Recommended Settings and with the Ambient Light Sensor on) Now with full brightness the Dell Battery Meter says 3 Hours of battery life.
I can do a battery life test if you want?
Thanks,

amitface, Lenovo has terrible customer care- the kind bad dreams are made of. If you happen to get a bad t61p, well, good luck.
