I was looking for the Lattitude 820 since CNET had given it such high reviews. Now can only find the 830 for sale on Dell's website.

Does anyone know the difference between the two or have suggestions?

    thanks!

The D820 was discontinued when the D830 came out...both laptops use the same design and build, but was updated for Santa Rosa and DX10 graphics.

Yeah, the D830 is basically the specs and components of a D630, with a size, shape, and exterior identical (or nearly so) to the D820.

I only found one review of the the D830, which was in German... luckily I understand German :D It stated that that there was very little difference between the D820 and the D830. They put them next to each other and there was no physical difference..., except maybe that a fingerprint reader now seems to be standard whereas it was an option on the D820. Oh and I read somewhere else that the D830 screen is brighter. BTW, all the thing like D-docks and D-bay's remain the same.

Do the Vostro and the Lattitude both have the finger pointer mouse in the middle of the keyboard, or just the Lattitude?

    also...
It seems like the 3 year warranty is standard on just the Lattitude.

    What do you know?!?!?

What about the finger pointer mouse?
I can see it on the Lattitude pics, but not sure about the other.

Ive been debaiting which one of these to get.. and I think Im going with the d630.. i love the fact that is it more portable and also dockable compared to the xps and inspirions.

Now im just debating xps or vista.. I do not have vista now and would like to start getting on it...so thats what i'll probably get.

Why the hell doesnt dell have 0% financing...

Seems to me the processor that is listed as Duo Core 4/2 would be better, the video NVIDIA which is separate from the motherboard would be superior, 2 GB MEM would be necessary to fly right and so you might as well get at least the middle of the road screen display.

Gotta add Bluetooth, just in case.
Don't need their software offers or their fancy cases.
Definitely want the THREE year warranty..................

So, it has to be a Lattitude.
    Guys....Ya' Think?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!

I think the D630 works great and I think the D830 will have the same features I like about my D630. However, I have not seen a D830 in person.

Personally, I'd go for the integrated graphics. Battery life and heat (or lack thereof) is more important to me than 3d performance. (I mainly play console games, rarely PC)

Rumor has it that x3100 won't stand the test of time with new features of DX10 being utilized in the future. I personally am going to XPS it and be safe about that gamble. There's nothing like being unable to watch a video that a friend sends such as is the case on my current computer!  Then again, I'm prepared to overdo it a little to ensure that I never have crippling slowness again.

I was told the graphics card separate from the motherboard ran better, smoother, etc.

I have a computer at my office, I have an extra one at home (we have a few) and I'm still having laptop withdrawal.

    Its a state of mind.
Laptop sitting anywhere is the best experience over sitting at a desk.
I gotta get one very, very, very soon.

How much difference does it really make if the screen is 14 or 15", I mean really?

well, it's a 14.1 vs. a 15.4 screen, so it's 1.3 inches diagonal difference, which i think i care about. i've looked at both sizes in stores and i get the sense that if i'm ever comparing two documents and want multiple windows open at once that the size might matter. but hey, lots of people have 12 and 13 inch monitors and do just fine. so i think it just comes down to whether you're willing to carry the extra pound for the 1.3 inches.
