Does anyone know if Dell is considering putting better GPUs in their Latitude line anytime soon. Because as far as I know, the Quadro 120 stinks...and its not more of a gaming card.

I would seriously consider buying one of them, but if they aren't around mid-late Sept. I will probably have to go elsewhere...

quadro 120 does not STINK, but yes it is not that great for gaming. however most recent games will play fine at medium settings.

RAM will also boost performance as well - make sure to get plenty of it if you plan on gaming on a business GPU (like the Quatro cards on the Latitude line).

This is indeed quite depressing. The GPU selection offered with the Inspiron series is quite bad (unless you want to buy a 17" model...). The GPUs offered with the Latitude series are not gaming-friendly.
I really don't want to spend money on a laptop whose videocard is going to be old soon.

I really hope the selection will be improved in September, otherwise, even if I really don't like the idea, I'll have to leave Dell behind and look somewhere else...

I doubt it. The unfortunate reality is that more powerful GPUs consume more power, thereby lowering battery life and generating more heat. This makes them unsuitable for all but the largest notebooks.

If your not willing to step up to a 17", then I'd consider other notebook brands. Such as Asus and Compal.

First off, Latitudes would never be offered with high-end graphics for the following reasons:

    • It consumes more power, thus lowering battery life.
    • It heats up the laptop rather quickly, thus making it somewhat unsuitable for a portable environment.
Latitudes are made strictly for the business market, so the chances of anything faster than a GeForce 7400 (or Quadro FX 120) is rather slim.

Having said that, if you're okay with a 17" display, the Dell Precision M90 is a good alternative. Its 1500M and 2500M graphics options compares to the 7900GS and 7900GTX respectively.

Of course, there's also the Precision M65 (exact same chassis as the Latitude D820). Not too sure how fast the 350M is though, so can't comment on that.

Hope this helps... at least a bit. :D

455/682 is my overclock. I have 2 GB of ram too, that helped a ton. But, suprisingly, the Audigy sound card i added gave me a HUGE performance increase. But yeah, i play BF2 totally maxed out and im using a second monitor (which i believe takes some graphics resources). I just make sure to watch my temps and have the fan on full blast when im gaming!
