I have had an X1 for several months now and think it's an excellent little machine, but I'm becoming concerned about the general robustness of the unit for the following reasons

    1. On delivery the machine was dead, recified next day
    2. After some 3 months of use I opened it one morning to find that the screen was cracked, the crack appeared to start from where my thumb pulls on the screen when I open it up (possibly a stress point). And no, I haven't dropped it.

I tried to get Dell to replace the screen but when the conversation got round to cracked screens being an act of god I gave up and fortunately my insurance picked up the replacement of the unit (new screen £550 fitted, so machine written off)

    3. My eldest daughter is off to university soon and as the X1 is an excellent little machine with great battery life(extended) I purchased one for and guess what.....

On delivery it was missing some parts and the screen was cracked.........

Has anyone else seen this? 2 cracked screens on two units in the space of 4 months or so.

If you do buy an X1 it is probably worth buying the on-site accidental damage cover

By the way I can highly recommend the sleeve case from waterfield bags for the X1, a perfect fit and excellent quality

Wow, that's either terrible luck or indication there's a problem in manufacturing. I wonder if any other recent X1 buyers are seeing this too.
