I've owned my Dell Latitude E6510 since new (2010) I am running Win 7 Pro 64 bit and want to upgrade the memory from 4 to 8GB, I went onto Crucial site and entered the laptop details, it then took me to the order page.

I ordered 2x 4GB modules, I installed them and they wouldn't work, checked with crucial. They advised to try them separately which I did, they work individually but not together. Crucial replaced the modules which I have tried again today and it's the same story, won't boot up goes into repair mode but doesn't find any errors. I am ready to give up and return them back to crucial.

I tried updating the BIOS to the latest but, it runs the programme but doesn't change the BIOS

    Any help appreciated

what cpu do you have. This sounds like a problem where the 520m 540m 620m dual core cpu from that gen only accepted 4gb. I once tried a 8gb module, bios detected but windows would not start. That's a limitation of the CPU if you have the 720m 740m 820m 840 920m etc those quad cores will accept 1 x 8gb modules. I have no idea why 2x 4gb will not work, it should work no problem. 1x 8gb will not work.

    jedisurfer said is right.

With that being said, try to get bios updated successfully. Follow the directions when you launch the bios file you downloaded.

When you say it didnt work, did you go into the bios and see if 8GB were all recognized in the first place? Or did you get error flashing code that did not let you post in the first place?

    Give us more details.

Bios on my machine is up to date (A16) on my E6510 processor is the i5M520 running windows & Professional. 8GB is recognized in the Bios but it goes straight into insert windows disk to go to repair mode.
