    Latitude D820
    $2,246
    512MB NVIDIA® Quadro NVS 120M TurboCache™
3 Year On-site Business Standard Plan

    Dell Precision M65
$2,460 (Includes free Dell UltraSharp™1707FP Flat Panel)
    512MB NVIDIA® Quadro FX 350M Turbocache, OpenGL
    3 Year On-site Economy Plan

    Both have:
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.00GHz/667MHz) Dual Core
    Vista™ Ultimate
15.4 inch Wide Screen WSXGA+ LCD Panel
    2 GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 2 DIMM
    120GB Hard Drive, 9.5MM, 5400RPM
    8X DVD+/-RW
    Intel® 3945 802.11a/g Dual-band Mini-Card

    Questions:
    1. Only the D820 listed "4M L2 Cache" with the processor, would the M65 have this also?

    2. It looks like the only difference is the graphics cards, since the decision comes down to this, how do they compare?

    1. Yes.

    2. These cards are very similar, in terms of performance.

Its kind of annoying that Dell does that, two separate computers, even in separate lines, that are basically the same.

    From wiki:

    FX 350
    Core Clock Speed: 425?
    Memory Clock Speed: 400
    Memory type: 64-bit DDR2
    Go 7400-based

    NVS 120M
    Core Clock Speed:450?
    Memory Clock Speed: 350?
    Memory type: 64-bit GDDR2
Also recognized as QuadroFX 350M / Go 7400

Well, the port selections, chassis and docking station solutions can be quite different too. Might want to check into those options to see they fit your needs.

I checked, they are identical, use the same docking station too.

If the gpus are so similar, why even release two. The price is the same too, one charges $200 more but you get a free Dell UltraSharp™1707FP Flat Panel. Maybe Latitude and Precision get different tech support?

Precision mobile workstations use certified opengl drivers. Certain pro apps (like cad software) have been tested to work without fault on those machines. It used to be that the Precision line had better graphics cards, too. The D810 could at best be configured with an ati X600, while its Precision equivelent the M70 came equipped with a Quadro FX1400, which is a 6800go based card.

How do you like your Precision?

Dell makes an XPS 12" and 17", but no 15", and I think its because they have TWO that would fit here - the D820 and M65. (the M90 is like the XPS m1710)

One problem with them is there are no DVI outputs, but their NVIDIA gpus do support them to 1900x1200, I guess this is a case of NVIDIA upgrading but Dell keeping the same old case.
