D800 All-of-a-sudden won't come on: This morning I was using it and copying from a PCCard (PCMCIA) to the HDD, then dismounted the card, removed it, and noticed the cursor stopped moving. So I rebooted and it wouldn't. No sound...just the lights on for about 3 seconds and then off. One time during my attempts to wake it up I did get an ascii screen talking about something connected to the "D-Bay" that had a problem and would not be activated (or some such wording), but when trying to move forward from that screen, got nothing and back to 3 seconds of lights, no sound, and then off and no matter how many times I try to start it I get the same result.

Three years ago I had a Dell Inspiron 8600 and it had a similar problem and seemed to be a zap through dismounting a device plugged into the USB and had the same result. Had to replace the MB...ugh!!

Thinking the "D-bay" might refer to the HDD, I removed it and tried rebooting, but no different.

Anybody have any idea how to fix it?
    Thanks, Marty

No, just 3 sec of steady light, then dark and no response, no beeping, or anything. :(

...don't know about the D630. One would hope that later versions (compared to mine from 3+yrs ago) would have added safeguards.

A couple years ago my desktop clone MB died suddenly and I returned it for warranty repair. They never did say what was wrong, but sent me one that had an extra removable circuit board in between the MB and the USB external plugs, so I suspect there was some kind of surge issue they were remedying. But THIS WAS NOT A DELL.
