If a Dell Latitude D630 is ordered with “1.0GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 1 DIMM [add $29]” will the laptop have the 1 DIMM of RAM pre-installed under the keyboard or on the underside of the laptop?

We are thinking - if this configuration of RAM comes preinstalled under the Keyboard we could handle the much easier undercarriage update of RAM later on?

We are planning to order the laptop with Windows XP and 1.0GB of RAM should do what I want but would like the possibility of an easy upgrade a year or two down the road.

    Thank you,

    Skid Marks

If you order just single RAM module (like I did), it will be pre-installed under the keyboard.

The second RAM slot which is at the back, will be empty to enable you to upgrade the RAM easily in the future.

    Thanks for the info Rixone.

Is your laptop a Latitude D630?

Would like to here from others as well to verify they come configured in the way we described.

    Thanks again,

    Skid

My D830 with one 1 GB stick was under keyboard. I ordered a 2GB kit from crucial though because I wanted matching sticks.

Appreciate your letting me know how yours came acts837. Seems that’s the way they are being built. Glad to here this.

Interesting point about the matching DIMMS. Have heard this is the way to do it or that it is better to have matching sticks but not sure exactly why. Maybe you can fill us in on the reasons why that’s important to do.

    Thanks again,

    Skid

Yes it is a D630. At the time of ordering, I had discussed this issue over the phone with the sales guy and he had confirmed that the single RAM module will come preinstalled beneath the keyboard only.
