Anyone have the new Dell Latitude 110L? I'm thinking of buying it because it's on sale for a very good price ($699CAN base price, with a Celeron Mobile 1.3MHz).

I'd be using it mostly for school purposes.. I don't intend on gaming with it (I've already got a pretty nice desktop set up for that), so battery life, and compile performance (I'm in a computer engineering program) are important.

    Any opinions?

hmm, I have to say I'm not a huge fan of that laptop. Can you not find an Inspiron for cheaper? Usually the Latitude models are more expensive because you get a better build...but with the 110L it's a budget Latitude and therefore build is not superior to the Inspiron. If you were in the U.S. I'd say look for coupons to get a nice Inspiron with a Pentium M for a great price ($750). But, well, you're not...

Well, if Iwas in the US.. I would have jumped on that $750 off $1499 deal earlier this week.. that was pretty damn good. But unforutnately, I'm stuck with whatever Dell decides we're worthy of up here (decidedly, not the $750 deal).

The cheapest Inspiron, the 1200, is $100 more.. and looks really poor, IMO (NiMH battery? I haven't seen a laptop use one of those in years..). The 2200 starts at $959 up here.

Why not look at a used ThinkPad? They are well built and very portable. You can probably pick one up on ebay with a 900Mhz PIII, 256MB RAM and 20GB hard drive for around $500US maybe less. I'm sure you can find someone to ship up there, not sure about the taxes though. If you upgrade to a faster hard drive you should get good performance. I'm guessing the battery life will be about three hours if the battery is in good shape. IBM also has a modular bay, so you could put a battery in there for extra time. Good Luck.
