I need to find the serial number for this laptop E.1705, but I can't find it. Where is it located on this laptop??

Sometimes the actual serial number is under the battery, but generally all you need is the Service Tag (on the bottom) when dealing with Dell.
-
it is on a small sticker on the bottom of the computer, smaller than that of Microsoft COA. You can find there the service tag and the express service code. you can also check for the service tag in BIOS (press F2 during startup) and you can also check for express service code in start - programs - dell accessories - express service code

Assuming you can boot up into windows, the free Belarc Advisor software is also very useful for retrieving Service Tag and Serial Number as well as lots of hardware and software information.....

Sorry Khris, I did read it but I read sinstoic's post after and lost train of thought. LOL. I'll check here in a minute after I shut down the computer.

Service Tag = Serial Number
I don't see why people are making this more complex than it needs to be. A serial number is simply a number (or other identifier) assigned by the manufacturer to uniquely identify an individual product. It doesn't have to be called specifically "serial number" it can have any name the manufacturer chooses to give it. In Dell's case that name is "Service Tag". -

Both are supplied by Dell, but the Service Tag is much more useful.....

Dell has it's own numbers used for tracking and those are the Service Tag and Express Service Code. Neither of these is considered the SN however.
The Serial Number usually starts with CN- and is 20 digits long. On my m1330 it's right on the bottom on it's own sticker, with a hardware revision number. Sometimes it's under the battery and you'll have to remove it to find it.
You'll also notice that your battery should have it's own SN number as well that starts with CN-. -
Does anyone know if there is a serial number inside Dell D620s?
-
*EVERY* Dell machine will have a Serial number. They are either on the the bottom of the laptop, or under the battery. They usually start with CN-

A good list of definitions can be found here: http://www.answers.com/Serial Number
The number you are referring to under the battery and on various Dell parts is the Part Piece Identifier (PPID). That is a more detailed version of the service tag (or only identifier for some devices like batteries) that allows Dell to identify the supplier associated with the part.
Which is more significant inside Dell? I couldn't tell you as I don't work for Dell, but I can tell you that by definition the Service Tag is a serial number.
