The last notebook I bought by Dell was the 9300. I can get a pretty good deal as usual right now but I said NO more Dells after 3. When the 9300 was reviewed and you can search it here it was lacking brightness (The Display on the highest, plugged in). The 9300 was poorly made except for the incredible sound and Centrino at the time.

Can I get some opinions (on the now models) about Display brightness plugged in ONLY- because I have no way of checking out the Dells anywhere in person first even w/them out in the public now?

Are all Dells still lacking in brightness? Just the 17inch models ,the 15.4 or any specific ones that are NOT lacking?

To me it's the worst problem and has ruined my use of another 2/3 good years of a notebook because it's even more dull now.

    I'm only interested in 15.4 or 17 inch,any models.

    Thanks in Advance,
    tinydancer :)

My Vostro 1500 is very bright. Remember, if you get the upgraded screen (WXGA+ for 15.4" laptops) it will be the brightest out of the 3 choices (WXGA, WXGA+, and WUXGA). If you look on their site, they list the minimum specs for brightness each pannel will achieve.

    Nizzy.
I have to simply thank you at this time. Everytime I go to post a reply I am logged off and I just did it 2 times. 3rd time now. I was stupid and did not copy because I know it does this but I usually get to the preview.

Do you know why this happens by any chance? I have written but no answer from anyone. I wrote twice and no answer/reply.

I of course know to go with the best display but that does not help me w/Dell. It was such an ordeal when the 9300 came out that it was too bright and the resolution plus the UGA display which was all blown out of proportion. The resolution is tiny but as for too glossy or too bright,I found it bery dark and no problem with anything mirror like.

Nizzy,I configured one with the basic high end specs I would go for (Your model) and left off the warranty. My god,I was shocked at the cost. Over priced and not worth it at all for "me". Looks nicer than the others but I need details. The dullness is bad and I read that in a few of the reviews when I looked back. I've owned 4 Dells. I have only 3 now. Every PC display is so much better than a Dell.

I think you have a nice choice for you. I'm not up to paying that. I don't think Dell has changed any displays but I would like to hear from someone that has viewed different models personally and looked at other brands.

The XPS might be the only model and maybe yours that are bright. I wish someone would tell me.... The others I need to hear from people that have looked around. I know how to buy the best display/resolution too and I am not one that likes anything flat or matte finish.

Nizzy :) Thank you for being so quick to answer and trying to help but I need details of someone who has looked at several models and other brands even. Dell when there are coupons can be bought pretty cheap but I have 3 and was not going for a Dell again. It's a couple years and I thought someone could give details about the display brightness. If it's better at all...

I wish there was a coupon for that model . I would check it out. I'm looking for 2 computers. A 15.4 and a 17 + notebook. Maybe an Apple for a change.
