Want to apply thermal paste to the CPU at least, I am sure the current 5 year old stuff is no good.

You won't like this but you basicially have to dissasemble the entire notebook in order to switch out the coolerpaste.

    Here is a video:

Well then screw it. (pun intended)

I just did that recently to replace the stupid, faulty power jack that's an inherently bad design. I wouldn't say it's particularly difficult, just tedious and time consuming. Given this thing is 5 years old, I fear breaking something or cracking something.

I tuned down the CPU to 99%, delete that Turbo utility by Intel, cleaned out the fan, the noise seems to have gotten to an acceptable decibel point.

Will just run it until it runs no more.

Nah, I mean I got quite a few of those notbooks to repair and honestly they have a sexy screen and very nice speakers. I'd open the whole thing, slap some coolerpaste on it and use intel XTU to undervolt the CPU. I mean that thing is a joy to work on and watch movies. I don't think I've ever heard better sound from a notebook than that thing.

I got a much newer, more expensive machine, MSI Titan and the Dell L702x has nicer screen. Its 17" screen has a higher pixel density than the 18.3" Titan, resulting in a better PQ.

However, the colors are way off in Dell L702x. It's way too blue.

Sounds like a misscalibration. Go look for a color profile for your panel and you should be fine.
