I've bought an L501X and since I have already upgraded to a 1080 screen from the original 720 screen. It has an i7 Q740 and 8GB RAM. I'd like to know the following if anyone can tell me:

    1. Is there a backlit keyboard available for this? Must be a UK model (I know there is a US keyboard avaialble) and the L502X keyboard has a smaller ribbon keyboard and won't fit properly either. Is the US layout the only one that will work?
    2. What is the fastest i7 CPU the laptop will take? I have tried an 840QM CPU and the laptop didn't boot and nothing on screen. Not sure why. Socket G1 CPU.
    3. Does anyone know what the part number for the TV Tuner antenna is (the wire from the Avermedia card to the socket at the back)? Again UK spec.
    4. Does it have to be an Avermedia card for the tv tuner?
    Thanks.

    1. Yes, backlit keyboard is available, the same keyboard is also used in: Studio 1450, 1457, 1458, 1570; XPS L401, L401X, L501. If possible, try finding one in eBay, you can find a good one cheap. Any layout will work, I've replaced the UK keyboard of my E5510 with a US backlit one and no issue so far.
    2. The best Nehalem i7 mobile CPU is i7-940XM (i7 Extreme Edition), however it's rare and EXTREMELY expensive, plus it's a 55W TDP processor so it'll need better cooling. Don't know why i7-840QM doesn't work in your laptop, but i7-740QM is still fast enough for a few more years.
    3. No idea of the exact part number but looks like the card uses the similar antenna in WLAN and WWAN cards, the connector is called IPAX / U.FL, try searching "u.fl antenna" in eBay.
    4. Dell doesn't put nasty whitelists (while Lenovo and HP do) to their laptops so it should theoretically accept any suitable TV tuner cards, but according to a post in Dell forum someone has fitted a TV tuner card and it didn't work, he claimed an TV tuner card will not work if the laptop didn't come with one originally. A USB TV tuner card is a lot simpler.

Thanks for the reply OverTallMan. I thought the connector on the card were micro MCX but U.FL came up with a few hits on eBay but nothing with a TV connection yet. I did manage to get the correct part on eBay but it's coming from the US and hasn't arrived yet. I also read about the TV tuner possibly not working, but when the driver is installed, it does show in the Sound/Video and Game Controllers section in control panel. Should it be displayed anywhere else?

Don't know much about that cause I never used one, but it does make sense. As long as it isn't in "Other Devices" or having a yellow triangle on the icon, the driver is properly installed.

The problem is whether Windows Media Center can detect the TV tuner card.
