for some unknown reason the Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop my grandson has now requires "a system or administrator password" in order to get through the password authentication system. He and I both have tried the password that the computer has had since the start and we keep getting the message "Invalid password". some stuff I have found on line makes it sound like it is the "BIOS white screen of death". Can any of you help me fix this problem so that my grandson can use his laptop again? Thanks a bunch for any help you can provide.

    Grandpa Rick

Is it a windows login screen, or a Dell one? If it's the Dell one, you will see a code like {your-servicetag}-595b.

If it's a Dell one, you could have a failing hard drive or someone set a BIOS or hard drive password.

If it's a Windows one, you might have to switch accounts if there are more than one. It's possible that someone could have changed the password, or, you might have gotten a virus.

Check these first - is the caps lock on? Will it take the password if you plug another keyboard in?

    Good luck!
