    I'm looking at purchasing my first laptop in the next couple days and I've pretty much settled on the Inspiron 6400 with the $100 off coupon from Dell Canada. I've been reading here, soaking up as much knowledge as I could before making my decision however, one question still remains. With the Inspiron which is eligible for the coupon discount there is a choice of LCD Displays as follows.

    15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display [Included in Price]
    15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display with TrueLife™ add $0
    15.4 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen WXGA+ Display with TrueLife™ [add $40 or $1/month1]
    15.4 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen SXGA+ Display with TrueLife™ [add $125 or $4/month1]

    I'm leaning toward going with the 15.4" XGA display without the truelife as I presonally can't stand glare when on the computer however, I am wondering what the max resolution is for the XGA display? I want to be able to use a resolution greater than 1024*whatever (or whatever it would be relative to a wide-screen monitor) and as a result I'm thinking I may have to spend the $40 to upgrade. Once again, what is the max resolution with for the XGA display?

    Thanks a lot.

    WXGA = 1280 by 800

    I think that applies to both with and without truelife but not 100% sure

    WXGA is terrible. The icons are huge... get the WXGA+ Truelife. The glossy is excellent. :cool:

    I haven't had much experience with the 1505, but I originally got my e1405 with the matte WXGA, had to send it back for a new screen and they comped me a WXGA+ screen with truelife glossy. After a month with the new screen, I would NEVER go back to the matte.

    The truelife makes a huge difference in picture quality and really doesnt have an issue with reflection or glare unless you have your back against a bright lamp/light. The resolution increase is very nice, comparing the two is like night and day, the WXGA+ is much crisper overall. Everything is less 'cramped' and you don't feel like you're watching the letterbox version of your screen =D

    Going in, I was pretty much a matte screen fan.

    I have to say, I rather like the Truelife.

    The glare is just not that bad in a "typical room" Now, outside on a park bench, any screen is gonna have issues, but in typical situations it's really not bad.

    The only thing I could see being an issue is if you have a light behind you shining right on the screen, in which case, you would have glare, but, just move the light, and you probably don't have this going on anyhow.

    I bounce lights off my walls and off the ceiling and glare is just a non-issue. I have windows and they are not an issue either. I don't really have the blinds open when the afternoon sun is shining in, but, I would not in any case, matte or Truelife screen.

    WXSGA+ (1680x1050) FTW!
