Has anyone heard of this issue at all?
When I boot up my Dell inspiron 1520 without plugging it into the wall, it takes about 15 minutes to launch Vista and get through the login page. After that, every action results in a 4 minute "thinking" period, executes and works normally until the next action is carried out.
But when I plug the laptop into the wall, BAM! The speed works the wonders it should. Now I've heard of Dells slowing down in battery mode to save power, but the current situation is ridiculous. The only way around it is to "trick" my laptop by booting it up with the cord connected, and then disconnect it. But that doesn't always work.
Are there any drivers to fix this, or is this something I should consult Dell about?

Check and try to adjust the advanced power option settings. It is likely that it is set to have a certain percentage of processor use reduced when you are running on the battery.

I thought this was the case as well. I have all my settings to run at high performance, especially in Battery Mode. When the laptop is not plugged in, there is a 100% chance that the laptop will freeze for five minutes, or lock up and need to be shut down. When it's plugged in, the chances of that happening are 0%. The laptop runs fine.
I was hoping someone had heard of this problem. Another user on these boards, Trevelyan, had that problem, but I cna't get a hold of him to see what his solution was. I've tried updating drivers and everything short of a fresh installation of Vista.
I think at this point I'll just ask Dell for a new laptop or some time of hardware replacement; it's only been 10 days since I've had it and I can't plug this thing in every time I need to use it. That's why I bought a laptop in the first place
