Ok, guys. Sorry for your inconvenience. The part number for the remote is 412-0961.
What I would suggest now is too call Dell.. and ask them to either change your order or TRY TO GET MORE FREEBIES! Because this is what they reported to me that this is the right remote.
edit:
I got the media edition remote (full size one) and I am getting the free express slot remote on top of that.
-
What do you mean you called and got it? You paid for it?
I thought they came with the inspiron 1520 to begin with. -
cool i am going to give them a call -
I spoke with a dell rep and ordered my 1520 today...she said that if I couldn't find the two items I wanted (headphones and remote) that they were most likely standard and would come. I see the headphones on my order but no remote. If it doesn't ship I'm going to ask for some sort of credit to my account as she specifically told me that it was standard and would ship.

Gave the person DMAK's part number: 412-0781)
Spoke with a rep by the name of Chris and he ordered it for me just now.
No mention about the wireless mini-card though... -
elscottomagnifico Notebook Enthusiast
The wireless they're referring to may be bluetooth, as some of the remotes use it.
-
I hope you guys get it free of charge like I did!
-
What did you say? That you're supposed to get it, or all the reviews said you get it, or what? How did you get them to create a separate order just for that?
-
Not everyone recieved it, for ex. Stella. If you don't get it, just call in and ask about it.
-
Basically, tell them:
- Ordered an Inspiron 1520
- Read review of the product stating that a remote is included
- No remote found on your invoice
- Other people on a forum experienced a similar situation
- Others have called into Dell Customer Care and have been sent a complimentary remote
- Give them DMAK's part #
Hope for the best
That's what I did...and it worked. -
Out of curiosity, did you have to give your credit card information again?
-
****, I just pulled up the order info and it shows a 49.55 charge on the order status page. I better call to make sure that I really don't get charged for it. No, I did not give out any CC info.
PS- what's the difference between 412-0781 and 412-0961? The latter was on the Canadian site as the free remote upgrade for the Inspiron 1520. -
No, I did not.
-
I better go and call back...yikes
-
OK, I called and they didn't charge me for it. Apparently their order system will show the cost regardless but when the rep looked it up, she was able to tell me that it was complimentary.
-
sweet i am gonna do this first thing tomorrow
-
not working for me sooo far
-
Can someone who actually received the remote WITH your computer verify the part number please?
Thanks! -
If you guys don't mind waiting, I can verify it when they send it to me.
-
I've been sent one, but it's not the same as the one listed here. I'm curious to see what the correct remote is.
-
Really? Can you show me a picture of it? I would like to see how it looks like as well.
We should ask the guy who did this review,
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3808 -
He was using a review unit so he may or may not be able to get a part number, but it wouldn't hurt for someone to ask him.
-
Andrew did say in his video review that they were both IR remotes...
Personally, I think I'm going to get one of these once they're available: http://www.newtonperipherals.com/mogo_mouseX54pro.html -
Thanks Dmak02 that line actually worked, i chatted online with customer care and I told them how I had seen videos and read reviews about the remote being standard with the notebooks and he credited back the amount I had initially paid for the remote, so I'm getting it for free!!!
-
Cool, great to hear it works. I just hope it's the right remote, even if it isn't we still get a free remote.
-
Well the one I ordered was the bluetooth interlink expresscard remote which dell sells on their site for $50 bucks, thats the one I'm getting credited for.
-
-
imo that remote the op got should be the correct model by looking at its product page. it looks like this is the remote made for the inspiron line

Hopefully
REPS APPRECIATED! -
The one included with the Canadian Inspiron 1520 has an SKU 412-0961. The one that the OP got (as well as myself), as shown in the link, does not have our model (Inspiron 1520) listed. Unless the expresscard slot for the 1520 and E1505 are the same?
-
No clue until I received the remote.
-
Bump, making sure all of you see this!
-
I think I'm going to e-mail and find out more...
-
-
-
Maybe I have bad luck or I'm just very unpersuasive. I've called like at least 7 reps and waited FOREVER while they put me on hold, but most of them need like 15 minutes to tell me that they can't help me. They're so worthless. I am gonna keep on trying though!! I am going to get that free remote!!
-
-
Have you tried referring them to this thread and the review that mentions the remote? That was all I had to do.
-
Well due to all the problems I have had with Dell so far, I have a case manager that works on my issues, I e-mailed her about this and told her that if she had any questions as to the validity of my claim to let me know and I would happily show her the forums where I read about it. So now it's the waiting game.
-
The rep who ordered me the remote free said that it was the "media center edition" remote..I don't see a 1721 listed there, but hopefully its still compatible and like someone said they just haven't updated the product page yet. As far as I know, the rep told me that you have to plug something in to your laptop (usb) to get the remote to work..either way, free remote, no worries.
The only thing I hate about this remote is...it's coming before my laptop! GRR! -
Kit,Remote Control,MCE05U,LeadFree,English 7/11/2007 In Production
thats what my order page says...beats me on what it is. -
Mine has already shipped, the remote that is...I have a DHL tracking # for next business day. You guys will get pics tomorrow.
-
When did you order it? Mine is in production as you can see. It was also upgraded to next day for free.
-
the rep told me that the remote only works with a tv tuner. anyone have ideas about this?
-
Lol. If I get it and it doesn't work..ebay here I come.
EDIT- That could be the case with you. My remote that was ordered was a "remote kit"..so i hope that means it comes with everything to use the remote. -
This remote has always been a separate option. The product info on the website does not show that a TV Tuner card is required. -
Do me a favor Critic, please go check the order for your remote and paste me the order details? what does it say? remote kit for mediacenter or what? thanks.
-
-
Is the remote you're all talking about the free one called "dell travel remote control" on the Dell Canada website?
Does this remote also comes with the vostro??? -
Son of a mother.........
My "oh so wonderful rep", gave me THIS remote kit..
