Both my 9100 and 9200 Dell Inspirons are incapable of monitoring sound that is sourced through the "Mic In" jack. That is, I cannot monitor the sound of an external sound source while recording. The recording can be made, however I cannot adjust recording levels nor can I listen in order to "Cue-Up" and start a recording at the desired moment.

I have tried downloading different sound recorders and it seems clear to me the issue is with how Dell configures the SigmaTel C-Major Audio card.

Countless hours with Dell Service, Customer Care and the Sales Department have yielded no conclusive solutions.

DOES ANY ONE HAVE ANY KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THIS ISSUE? IS THERE A SOLUTION OTHER THAN BUYING A DIFFERENT MANUFACTURER'S NOTEBOOK?

I am grateful for any responses. Thanks

Your Volume Control Applet should allow you to un-mute the mic input. Doble click the little speaker thingy to get to it. You may have to go to Options -> Properties -> Advanced -> Record to change what you need.

    First PC = Vic-20, 8" 128KB Home-Brew Floppy Drive ... Current Rig = eMachines m6805 ... Quantum Leap?

    Hey Olyteddy,
Thanks for your reply. I have in fact already tried that. The Mic volume is un-muted in the Options -> Properties -> Advanced -> Record volume control.

I'm curious if anyone else with a Dell 9100 or 9200 is experiencing the same problem.

    Appreciate your help,
    Hoyo
