My Dell inspiron M5030 won't boot it says Windows Error Recovery. It says launch Startup Repair or Start Windows Manually. It doesn't matter what you try it just restarts and comes back to this screen. Can't boot from CD or boot into safe mode. Tried Boot menu to boot the reinstallation DVD and nothing. Won't do anything but restart and come to the Windows error recovery screen and then it if you click Launch Startup Repair it goes to the blue Windows screen and just stays there and never loads anything.

    Hi,

This could be either because of the faulty Hard Drive or a Corrupted Windows Operating System. Testing the Hard Drive using Pre-boot System Assessment will help us identify the issue.

Please use the link mentioned below in order to find the details about how to run a “Pre-boot System Assessment” and the list of Error Codes and the details.
Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA) Diagnostics and Error Codes For Dell Computers | Dell

In case you get any error code please let us know, if there are no error codes you can either try to reset the system to factory settings using Dell Data safe Local back-up or will have to re-install the Windows Operating System.

I hope this helps. Please do write back in case you need any further assistance.

    Thanks & Regards

    Hi,

Got the Hard Drive error code 2000-0142, followed instructions on the PSA and took out the hard drive and reinstalled it and immediately got the error when running the PSA again of Hard Drive 2000-0146. Does this mean I need to get a new hard drive.
    Thanks

Error code 0142 is a bad hard drive error code. Yes you'll need to get a new hard drive. Did you ever make your recovery discs? The drive in the M5030 is under the palmrest, you need to remove all the bottom screws, keyboard, the 3 connectors and remove the palmrest.

    Hi floridamom,

Have you replaced the hard drive and is the system working fine now? As Tsunade_Hime mentioned the hard drive replacement may be difficult because you will have to remove several components. You may use the below mentioned link to view the service manual of Inspiron M5030, refer to the same if required. Do let me know if this system is still in warranty.
