I've been looking at different laptops to purchase and can't decide what to invest in. This is my first laptop and since I don't have regular access to a reliable desktop I'm looking for something that's capable of doing a wide array of tasks. It'll be used most likely for gaming, entertainment, music, recording, programming, and school. When it comes to more recent games it'll probably be for games like World of Warcraft, Warcraft 3, Guild Wars, Black and White 2, and Battlefield 2. I'm hoping to try some new games that are coming out later this year and as long as they run at a smooth rate I'm happy. Elder Scrolls IV is one that comes to mind, though I'm not sure if these systems will be able to. I've thought about spending $1,600 and found two that I thought looked pretty good. The first is the Acer TravelMate 8100 which comes with an Intel Pentium M 760 (2.0GHz), 15.4" WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) TFT display, 1GB DDR2, 100GB HD, 128 MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700 graphics, DVD Super Multi, and I'm told has a battery life of about 4 hrs. The second is the Dell Inspiron E1705 which when upgraded from the single core system comes with Intel® Core™ Solo Processor T1300 (1.66GHz/667MHz FSB), 17 inch Wide Screen XGA+ Display, 1 GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 80GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive, 256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 7800, 8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW), and a 80 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery instead of the 6-cell. Wasn't sure how long the battery lasted on the Dell but I upgraded it hoping to get at least 3 hrs. The Dell Inspiron E1705 came to $1,603.00 on their site and I found the Acer TravelMate 8100 for $1609.00 on Newegg.com. So the final question is which should I get.. lol? I wanted to order it this week but I can't decide. I'm always open to other possibilities too. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

May I ask why you are going for a single core instead of the dual core processors?

I would recommend the Acer 8100 over the Dell E1705, due to te Acer's better build quality and finish, and lighter weight.
