Hello, my backlight is dying =(. It is only been a 1 year and a few months since I got my laptop. The left side of my screen is getting pretty dark... Is there a way to replace my monitor with a new one?

I've read about replacing the backlight, but I have no soldering experience...

    Thx!

Depending on how you purchased your machine you might either have a warranty through Dell or your credit card company... I recommend you try that avenue first if it is one you have as an option...

You can also purchase an LCD on eBay, but you don't know how long that backlight will last. I think there is also some LCD backlight replacement shops online...

Next time though, I recommend you extend the warranty on the machine as no matter how you slice it this will probably be an expensive setup, unless you have the added warranty level I mentioned initially...

This is seems to be a common issue with 17inch screen laptops, my backlight completely died about 2 weeks ago (on an hp 17inch laptop and I've only had it for 10 months). But mine had the dual lamps, because I had purchased the ultra bright view, did you get something similar or diid you get the standard screen? Just trying to figure out if its a trend with the ultra bright view screens.

I just got the box from HP and I'm going to send it out after I back up all my data, even though its just a back light issue its not uncommon for them to reformat drives anyway.

I think I read where you were supposed to take out your hard drive if you send you laptop back for repair.
