    Hi,

I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron E1405 laptop with matte finish. It does not have a dedicated video card - only an integrated Intel Graphics 945GM Express Family chipset.

I want to make the screen brighter. At its highest setting (by pressing Fn and up sign), it is okay, but not as bright as I want it. On my Dell Latitude d820 with its dedicated video card, I can use the Nvidia control panel and make is EXTREMELY bright.

Any help would be nice. Thank you!

The video card does not affect it. It is your LCD. The matte is dull and isn't as bright as other screens. Since you just got your laptop, contact Dell and see if you can get the screen upgraded to truelife. The truelife is brighter since it is the glossy screen. You only have 21 days since your laptop was shipped to return it if you don't like it, so it would be best to contact Dell now and get this straighten out.

I have the same problem. I thought the screen would get better over time or i would get adjusted to it, but I never did. I ended up waiting until after the 21 day period, and had to buy the truelife screen which cost about $500 to upgrade it.

You can further adjust brightness and contrast through driver software (like you did with nVidia control panel); load up the Intel GMA driver control panel from advanced display properties. But it won’t be as effective as increasing the actual brightness (increasing backlight intensity)

Are you sure I can increase contrast or anything through the Intel GMA driver? All it lets me do it rotate screen or change resolution...please someone help...is there another driver I can download to make screen brighter? Thank you for your responses thus far, it has been very helpful.

my 640m is really bright at maximum setting... i usually tone it down. Press Fn and the up arrow to increase the brightness.

Read first post, already did that.

P.S. I've messed with the Adobe Gamme color thing...makes screen brighter if I toy around with it, but colors looked more washed out.
