Hi all,
While swapping out my palm rest today I accidently broke the white connector off the motherboard (or whatever green board the touchpad cable connects to). The 10 silver pieces that connect the white connector to the board have broken and now the touchpad/mouse buttons/media buttons no longer work.
I'm out of warrenty and the Dell out of warrenty service wants to charge me $358 to fix it, which i will not do.
What I want to know is what is that white connector suppose to be connected to via the 10 metal connectors...motherboard or what?
Also any advice as to what I should do?
Any help is appreciated, Nick

Since it broke off the motherboard, you'll have to replace the MB which will be pretty expense. You might be able to find one on Ebay for a relatively low price, but it would involve taking your laptop completely apart in order to replace it (hence why Dell wants so much for it).
My personal advice is if you are planning on buying a new laptop soon, you might just want to try find a temporary fix such as a portable mouse or keyboard for the media keys.
Hopefully, someone will have a better solution, but I really don't.

Yea i figured it was connected to the motherboard...is there a specific motherboard for my model? how do i find out my motherboard model #? I use eBay alot so if I could find a new motherboard there that would work for me.

Did you pay with a AMEX, Visa, or Mastercard by any chance? They extend your warranty so you may be able to fix it that way.

solder it and hope it works?
risk? -
Can you put some pictures?
An alternative would be to just use a cordless mouse. -
yea currently im using a wireless mouse...however i did purchase the laptop with a visa credit card...can you give me info on this possible extended warrenty?
