I'm having a partially dim screen. Most of the time it's on the right part of the screen, sometimes it returns to normal. I also have a chirping sound coming out of my computer which I can stop by changing brightness levels back and forth.
Can it be that my inverter is broken ? If so I can not find the part number for an inverter that will drive my 1920 x 1200 res screen..

Any help is very much apreciated !

Actually there is a known issue with the 9400 LCD, the LCD most likely it will fail, check if that happens in diagnostics too, if it does the LCD has to be replaced, there is a recall for the LCD, but that is for vertical lines on the screen, I dont know if your LCD will be eligible, If you have vertical lines on the LCD it doesnt matter if you are out of warranty, Dell will replace it.

My 9400/e1705 has a similar problem a one pixel wide verticval line has appeared and will not go away. This laptop is barely over a year old and just outside of the one year warranty. Dell will no longer help you at this point they will continually transfer you to a outsourced "NON AMERICAN" tech support line. I was told by 8 different dell "INDIAN" representatives that Dell 'WILL NOT" replace this display unless you pay them to do it. Take my advice 'DON'T PURCHASE DELL" purchase something else next time.

    Sincerely, Robert. E. Hull
