    Dell Inspiron 9400 RAM

    Does changing the RAM yourself void the warranty? If it does, I only have the single year warranty for my laptop (which is still on its way) so I would only have to wait a year to upgrade it.

    No, changing RAM or CPU or HD etc. does not void your warranty (unless you destroy something in the process). If anything goes wrong and can be tracked to the new RAM/CPU, they might require you to plug in the old one before doing anything... (that is - they won't cover the new components).

    Ah, that's perfect! You see, I originally thought it did not void the warranty, then I vaguely remember reading something that made me believe the contrary (can't remember where!).
    I'm getting it with a single 1GB RAM module - as opposed to two 512s - so the original part shall always remain when I stick in another 1GB module.
    I shouldn't need to upgrade any other part for a good while, unless a hard drive catches my eye.
