I've recently moved from my desk to using my 17" Dell Inspiron 9400 to using it on my lap; thus making the laptop a lot hotter than usual. I was using it when the screen kept turning on and off, with Vista notifying me of a driver error. So I decided to do a force shutdown, and I then left it to cool down and went out (presuming it would be ok when I started.

Couple of hours later, I turn my laptop on, and the screen doesn't come on for couple of minutes, and when it does (at the log in screen, it again flickers with line across the screen.

I do not think this is a driver issue as I cannot even see the bios start screen!

The laptop is over two years now and out of warrenty; and I'm sure Dell would charge a lot for it to be fixed.

What would you recommend I do?

    Thanks in advance,

    Mark

You would have to call Dell's out of warranty depot and see how much they charge, but if its overheating then it doesn't hurt to open it up and try to clean out the fans?
