Hi, I am thinking about changing the hard drive on this computer, could someone tell me if i western digital sata 160GB would actually be compatible with this notebook?

The notebook itself is about 4 - 5 years old and i searched on dell website for the hard drive replacement, the hard drive that's available is this:

    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=341-1838

but i'd like to get more storage than 40 GB

    Thanks

I think you'd have to get a IDE/ATA drive, not SATA. They're a bit more expensive nowadays.

Yup, you have to get an IDE drive. SATA drives will not work.

The interface should be compatible. But, check the drive dimensions. I read another thread in this forum where they were asking about different hard drive sizes (physical dimensions). Compare this to the one on the Dell site; you can probably find out the exact size on the manufacturer's site. I'm not sure if this is a critical issue, maybe someone else can chime in.
