So I have finally took the plunge and reformatted and reloaded my system (well still loading software.)
    I have a few questions.

So far, I have installed Windows, Dell drivers (the ones from CD, not website). Then installed Norton IS and SW. Got all those updates, then did ALL the Windows Updates.

    1. How do I get the Dell Media Center (or whatever it was called installed on the 9100s) program back. This was a program that played DVDs and sort of had a Windows Center Ed type of interface. Its not on the CDS I got from Dell originally. So far dont see it on their site.

    thank you

I think what you are referring to is DELL Media experience. Since I don’t think Media Direct is supported by your notebook.

If it came preinstalled, then you should have the reinstallation disk.

So Im on a chat with Dell with a "mathew" (who is OBVIOUSLY not in a country where people would typically be named Mathwe if you know what I mean).

hes telling me that they cant send the CD of the software even though it was preinstalled as a free program unless the computer is under warranty - which it is not. He says I have to purchace the program. It was NOT included on the CDs I got with the laptop (XP, Drivers, a few other pieces of software.).

    WHAT?! I cant believe this.
I got all these CDs for software except this program. And now Im told I have to buy it even though it came free with my system. Now hes telling me about the Dell System Restore program that would have worked if I used that but that didnt start till July 04. My system is from May 04 so I dont have that.

Dell "language barrier" tech support has been hard enough going in circles every time I have called them trying to make them understand what the issue really is. Now I have to pay for software that was free and I wasnt given a copy of it like EVERYTHING else.

thank you all for letting me vent......

Well perhaps I spoke too soon. After more fighting on the issue with the guy on the chat, I was saying it didnt make sense I wasnt given a CD of this software and I cant get one now even though it was free. He eventually gave in and contacted a "supervisor" and then said hed send the CD out to me.

Why am I boring you with my story here on a public forum?

cause I wanted anyone else that got computers from Dell with a similar situation to make note if restoring a system as not all the Dell software is on the CDs included and they wont just "send a copy for free".......well I guess unless you really push the issue and get unhappy.

So ok, in the end they came through to try to make me happy. So cheers to Dell customer support. This makes up for a driver issue they pretty much bailed on a year and a half ago and I had to figure it out myself (and I was under waranty then. )
