I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 that was purchased back in 2004. Earlier this summer I noticed a weird dim area in the bottom center of the screen, as well as a slightly less dim area in the bottom right and possibly on the far bottom left. But the worst area is in the bottom center.

Anyways, I have been told it could either be the back light going out or the inverter. I have done extensive research into this problem, and it seems that when the inverter goes bad, the ENTIRE screen will go substantially dimmer, and not just one isolated area.

My warranty is way past expiration, and I do not want to shell out over $300 for a new LCD from dell if it is just the inverter or back light going bad. I will order the part I need and find someone to help me fix it.

Anyways, I just want some confirmation on this if it is the inverter or back light causing the issues. I've attached a digital image I snapped last night of the computer (flash is turned off, so the screen can be better seen.)
