I have read many threads on this issue here and elsewhere yet I just cant get this stupid thing to work. My problem is that my battery wont charge and my laptop wont even turn on without the batteries. What makes it worse is the fact that i bought a adaptor from those fools at dell who said it was my adaptor!

I ruled out the adaptor and the battery so far...

Now I am only got the motherboard and the power board left. I need to get this fixed before July 1st and I do not mind going inside the laptop myself to fix this. :D

I need to figure out also if this could be the CMOS battery, power board, or motherboard...I do not want to waste money...

You sound like you are having the same problem that i'm having. You power supply (where the power brick connects to the laptop) has becomed damage or loose from the motherboard. You can't get your battery to charge up, and you can't get it to run on your powerbrick.

Mine is just damage and still works somewhat, but i have to play around with the cord for several minutes, and make sure not to move once i get it set.

If you are still under warranty, dell should replace your motherboard for free.

I have an old 8200 laying around also. Had to have the mobo removed once for fan replacement. the mobo can be expensive to fix (few hundred) if your under warranty I'd let dell do it and pay for everything. Best of luck

same here. I would still call dell anyways eventhough your warranty is gone. You might be able to buy some kind of extended warranty as well as they do out-of warranty repairs. It might be a bit costly if you go with the second.

Argh some people have quoted up to 700 dollars for it alltogether. I say screw dell and just buy the motherboard off ebay.
