There is a student discount so I was thinking of taking advantage of that.
I am going away for college soon and I will be away from my desktop. I need a laptop where I can continue gaming and I was wondering if that would be a good deal.
I use to be Desktop>Laptop for gaming but the mobility is just too good to give up when you are actually moving away from home. I will be in the dorms so I don't think it is going to be too comfortable or practical to bring my gaming PC.

If it has an IPS screen - hell yeah. That's pretty damn good value.
Not to mention the battery life on this is insane - expect 7-8 hours. -

Is it still a good time to buy this laptop?

That's why I am looking into a gaming laptop. I will moving away to a dorm soon and that's why I am Eyeing this laptop.
How long can a gtx 1050ti last for 1080p gaming?
I am just looking for a laptop that can play games like Overwatch, WoW, and the upcoming Destiny 2 in 1080p. -

I don't own that laptop myself but I doubt you'll have issues carrying it around with a decent bag. Build quality is quite good from what I've read and seen thus I believe it will probably be quite durable in the long run.
-
It's your typical 15 inch laptop, I don't own it but it should be not too bad to carry around your back all day (If you also carry books and other things). The good thing is though that you don't need to carry the charger as it can go on all day on a single charge. I like15 inch laptops because anything smaller is too small for non-portable use and anything bigger is too big for portability. It's an inch thick and as long as you use a double strap laptop, you'll be good.
Definitely do not bring your gaming computer. You won't have that much time to play games and it wont be worth it to lug around a pc, keyboard, and monitor. Especially when you're moving out.Charles P. Jefferies likes this. -

I had a 15-inch laptop for my first two years of college. It was pretty heavy but it was really the size of the thing that hampered mobility the most (length x width). Think about carrying around a relatively large textbook.
I got a 13.3-inch laptop for my last two years of college which was great, I could easily take notes on it in class. Whipping out the 15-incher to do that wasn't practical for that most times, especially if I had to use it on my lap.
You could look into something like the MSI GS43VR or Razer Blade if you want something smaller. 14-inches is quite portable. Unfortunately the selection of 14-inch gaming notebooks isn't great, and they can be expensive. But if you are going to keep this notebook all of college, it's worthwhile to spend a little extra up front to get exactly what you want.
The GTX 1050 Ti is just adequate for today's AAA games at 1080p. Maybe not tomorrow's. I would look for a GTX 1060 instead. The Acer Predator Helios 300 comes to mind.
Otherwise the Inspiron 7567 is a decent machine, just make sure the one you get has an IPS display. They used pretty bad TN panels in the models they shipped initially. Backpack w/ a padded sleeve in it for the notebook is the ideal way to carry a notebook (IMO).

Buy it when you need it ...don't put yourself at a disadvantage for the sake of potentially saving a few dollars in a situation like this.

I have this notebook with 16gb ram, a UHD screen and a 512GB SSD. Switching from a 13.3 2009 MBP and iPad pro 12.9. my complaints are that it is very unwieldy and feels heavy. occasionally it lags. the corners dig into my wrists/forearms.
pros, it has the best windows touch pad I've ever used. it's almost as good as my touchpad on my MBP. -

I was kind of iffy about the weight. Is it really heavy? If you don't mind me asking, how much do you weight?
I really appreciate your input. -

It's no Alienware or MacBook Pro, but it's not Alienware or MacBook Pro price either. I don't know how long term use will be but it's pretty solid. When I opened up the bottom to put in a crucial mx300 sata ssd the only complaint was that I had to gingerly peel the connector back from the cable a bit.

They did announce the new model that can house a 1060, the model is 7577 but it is said the MSRP starts at $999 and that's for an i5+1050 according to windows central. so that's very expensive considering the price at bestbuy for the 7567. The new model has usb type c but has a smaller battery... hmm... -
Wow in that case that it is not worth it since the new model has a downgraded battery and it is heavier (THe 1060 version) -
Did a comparison with my desktop
http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/4839721
http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/4839693
performance wise the 1050ti mobile is about the same as a gtx 760.
had to go in and dial up things so it would test properly
The performance boost from the 1050ti mobile to the 1060 is probably decent -
the question no one has asked is what's in your desktop gaming machine, if the 1050 ti mobile is not up to snuff for the games you play you might be wasting your time and money.

The GTX 1050ti is near the performance of a desktop 960. These are the benchmarks (scroll down) https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-1050-Ti-Notebook.168400.0.html
If you want a 1060 (35% increase over the 1050ti) and you dont mind getting the Acer Predator Helios and have the money for it, then why not. Acer isn't that much better than Dell in customer service and reliability (cant compete with asus).
But for a 1050ti, the Dell 7567 with the student discount at bestbuy is a good deal, but without that $100 discount... not too sure.
And btw I saw on Windows central that the base 1050 in the new model was $999 but they could've been wrong. If the 1060 is $999 then maybe it could be worth waiting.
edit: it was wrong, the 256gb+1060 starts at $999.Last edited: Sep 12, 2017 -
hi,
Will this work with a razor core or similar external GPU device?
thanks -
It has no Thunderbolt 3 port, so i guess no razer core or similar external graphics dock will work her (or make sense due to bandwith which not exist).
Btw friend of mine clicked nearly similar Inspire those days with 7700HQ/1050Ti 4GB/16GB RAM/512GB nVME SSD and 4k screen but a "white" keyboard backlite (looks much nicer for me, but never seen such online, just red ones).
I had on hand today, pretty nice build quality, especially concidering the price, pretty nice trackpad, very good keyboard and very nice display (the 4k one). Ok, it maybe little heavy but .. quality/haptic and how it feels is more than good.
The soundsystem was really good (for the price you pay), just the fans on his machine was running higher frequence than i´ve tought, but maybe we can thermal repaste it.
Weve played 1080p games and I cannot see any hughe issue for 1080p and high (not ultra) settings almost (GTA5 / Fortnite). I mean i´ve got a 1070 inside a FHD notebook in direct comparison which cost double the price so ... maybe later some games run on mine further. Whatever.
If Dell XPS15 (same setup) has same price i would choose this over the Inspirion, else itś´ńót a bad choice I guess.

So just throwing this out there, I think the 7567 to me is a better choice over the 7577. I think the battery life difference really makes the difference. For me a laptop is something I want to travel with. While traveling the less time I need to plug in the better. The 67 gets 2 to 3 extra hours of batter life which means that's an extra movie to watch while on the airplane or hotel.
Now if battery life doesn't matter to you, the 77 is probably better. Stronger GPU is always a nice to have and thunderbolt 3 unlocks possibilities of an external GPU as well. I am really shocked that dell hasn't released a thunderbolt 3 gpu enclosure yet. Sure they have the alienware one and for gaming, its better than T3, but still I think if they have one for the inspiron crowd that would be a great option. Plus dell sells graphics cards so people may buy from there... more profits.
