    Hi,

Can i replace the keyboard of inspiron 7537 with that of Inspiron 5547? Or any other ?

Reason is I want a black colored keyboard since in night in fluorescent lit room, with backlight on, it's difficult to distinguish the character on keys.

    Any idea??

Did you ever find an answer to this, or try it? I'm wanting to do the same thing.

No. I tried talking to the dell tech support. They just follow their script "both are different model", "different interface of the keyboard connection" etc.
If I get my hands on a inspiron 5547, I'll check if the keyboards interface is compatible or not.

But yes, Dell's R&D is dumb and idiot; who knows why the hell they put shiny silver color for the keys...

Likewise, I like my dell 7537 other than the silver keyboard, which is almost impossible to see in daylight or at night. A silver kbd was a stupid idea. Can Dell PLEASE manufacture a black and sell as an after market product? Who do we need to ask?

I actually bought a black silicone cover for the kbd and it looks great, but makes typing very spongy.

I would love a real black keyboard and would happily pay!

Really, I wish I had a Harry potter wand, and make this silver keyboard a black one!!

I will give it 3 more months. If no black kbd, I will change laptop, and buy something other than a dell. It was my mistake to trust that the design guys at Dell would not screw up so badly. We live and learn (to not trust dell)

Hi, T.Das777, did you had possibility to test the 5547 keyboard? I have a 7537 laptop and i like it. I installed Debian instead of Windows and it woks very good. I do not plan to change it, but one thing makes me crazy: the f*cking silver keyboard. I can not cover it with silicone, because it's DE (with 7-like enter button).

If nobody tested the 5547 keyboard (or 3541), i will buy it and will be the first one who tried.

Oh yeah! I'm finally found this topic. Is there any news? I have the qwertz keyboard layout and I found a lot of 5547 keyboards but I'm afraid to spend and in pictures it looks like the first row (ctrl, fn, windows, alt, space, alt gr, ctrl .... buttons) and the 5th row (number row) are a little bit taller on the 5547 than on the 7537.

I wish i found a 5547 laptop, so that I can check the compatibility.
I also don't want to purchase before confirming the compatibility.

I've just found the Dell Inspiron 7559, and the keyboard looks just perfect. The only problem that I can't find a replacement 7559 qwertz keyboard. (It's just released I think.) So now I have to wait until someone sell a replacement keyboard for it.

Very good find, Saj. I am also looking for the QWERTZ Keyboard of the 7559 now. Lets hope they used the same production schematics.

The 5547 Keyboard would not work, because the cables are bent in different ways. I also doubt the second cable (for backlight?) is long enough to reach the connector of the 7537.

I suppose to remove 7537's keyboard, one screw is there on the back side...

I don't know for sure, but i think the clips would be strong enough to hold it in place without that one screw.

but without that screw, the keyboard might wobble in the mid section.

Sounds plausible. So i guess the base is not as strong as the 7559 to leave that screw out.
Anyways, the cables aren't placed to fit on the 7537, unfortunately. :/
