A small fraction of the people who bought the 640m in its first week or so of availability have been reporting getting bad screens with sparkle or light leakage. However, Dell have had almost a month to fix this problem, and it was really only a tiny amount of people who had this. Also, interestingly, all these people seemed to be from the US - I never once saw someone from another country reporting a bad screen on the 640m.

I've heard bad things about both screens. I've also heard good things about both screens. Choose based on what you want. If you cannot stand a glossy screen, go with the wxga matte. If you want a higher resolution/glossy, go with the True Life. I have the True Life wxga+ and I'm very happy with the resolution. The glossy screen doesn't bother me at all, but I can see where some people would be very annoyed by it.

I live in Australia and I've got the Samsung screen. It has noticeable light leakage. The NEC DVD drive is loud also, and it arrived with a dead key on the keyboard.

Dell are sending me out replacements for my parts however :)

If you buy this laptop, you will almost always have some light leakage :)

    Well, THAT's an understatement :)

To Dell, this is no problem... so they probably didn't fix anything. & I honestly don't think it was a "tiny" amount. About 3/4 of the users on this forum (and other forums) report light leakage & the sparkle effect.

Do you happen to be a Dell CSR? ;)
