Is the Inspiron 6400 15.4" 6.18 lbs too big/heavy?
I only need to carry it for college.
All other times it would be at my house.
The size is making me unsure if I should buy.

I have an E1505 (same as 6400) and have no problems carrying it around. Just throw it in my backpack when I need to for class or homework in the library. Smaller, lighter would obviously be easier, but it's hard to find a decent gpu with a smaller laptop for the price. If cost were no object I probably would have got the xps M1210, but have no regrets on the E1505/6400.

I bought a E1705, 17" screen, and I found no trouble taking it on a plane in a backpack, and using it..
Sounds like yours should be perfectly fine. -
Hi
When you see its picture it looks very bulky and heavy. But in real it looks pretty good and is much lighter than you expect .I have no problem to carry it whenever I go. And in my idea it is not bulky at all comparing to most of laptops.

I prefer laptops with wider screens so 6400 was the best option for me (considering the price and all) Weight wise it's just alright, I wouldn't say it's too heavy. Then again I haven't been bringing it around yet,but it shouldn't be too much of a problem

I just received mine last week. I have no plans to cary this around (not what I got it for), but I was surprised how light it was. I don't think you'll have a prob with taking the 6400 for a walk

Best thing is to go to a retail shop and compare an actual 15.4 against other sizes. No one here can help you completely. As you can see yeaok says even a 17 is fine with him, but for me 17 is like carrying a desktop. Its a matter of personal preference. My ideal portable is 12.1.

The 15.4 inch screen is the perfect size. Anyone that says the E1505 is too heavy and they would opt for the 14.1 in screen for the pound less just needs to suck it up. It isn't that big of a deal.

I own the E1505 and bought my Gf the e1405 and in my program class uses the e1705 and can tell you that the 1705 is pretty heavy. I would not want to carry that laptop around. the e1505 is not too heavy but it isnt light either. My friend has the 17 inch toshiba satellite and it seems just as heavy as my 1505 and possibly even lighter. I carry my laptop around at school and i would compare it to carrying an extra calculus book in your backpack.

I am in college too, and I used to have an Inspiron 600m, which IMO has the perfect size/weight. I changed it for an Inspiron E1505 (6400), and it is fine... Just like mr bots said, smaller notebooks at this price point tend to get the crappy integrated gpus. If that is not a problem for you, check out the E1405, as it is smaller and ligher, and still widescreen.

I pack my 6400(E1505) to and from high school every day, from class to class. I personally wish that it was smaller... but if I had it my way then I wouldn't have to carry anything from class to class. Its not that bad if your going to be carrying books and such anyways.

If you are concerned about size and weight then XPS M1210 is my recommendation. 12.1 is not as small as you might think, its native resolution is 1280x800 which is the same resolution used in E1405 and E1505 (WXGA), therefore what you see in the screen is same but smaller. IF you compare the size with an older 14 CRT monitor they are about the same.
Speaking of graphics performance, GF Go 7400 of M1210 is only slightly (~10%) slower than X1400 of 6400 (E1505).
