After receiving a brand new Dell Inspiron 6400, the only actions I've performed are:
    Dell-Decrapifier
Uninstall Norton Ghost and merge the Backup partition into the Main partition
Uninstall some programs from the Add/Remove Programs

However, when the laptop is off and I press the MediaDirect button, this is what is shown:

Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.
Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware.
Please check the Windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.

Can someone please tell me how I could fix this?

    Cheers

Maybe try installing the Media Direct stuff from the Dell driver site for your model
