    Hey guys,

I'm looking into a laptop right now and the new i630m has caught my eyes; since i wanted something not as bulky as the i6000 and something cheaper that I can just drag around with.

The question i have is, is the 9 cell battery for the 630m the same size as the 6 cell battery? Or does it stick out at the back?

    That's it for now.

    Many thanks in advance!

Extended 9-cell battery for the Inspiron 630m (XPS M140) is larger than the six-cell and does stick out the back of the laptop.

I'm getting the M140 (same as 630m) in a week. I'll try to post a photo or at least post the dimensions. Dell doesn't have the 9-cell dimensions listed yet, but I would guess maybe an inch out the back. Of course, they didn't have the estimated battery time a month ago, but now they do. So maybe we'll get official dimensions soon?

Anyway, if someone has the dimensions now (w/9-cell), please do post them! It would be very useful in getting the right-sized laptop sleeve when my laptop is delivered. Not too many sleeves fit 14 inch widescreen notebooks, let alone those with extended batteries.

I have the larger nine cell battery on my T42 which sticks out a little from the back. I love the 50% extra battery life and hardly notice it.

Looking at the user manual for the M140

    http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xps140m/en/om/om_en.pdf

you can see a picture of the battery sticking out on page 23 (side views are on pp. 19 & 21). I believe that is the 9-cell, because the picture of the bottom at this page

    http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsnb_m140?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

appears to show a smaller (6-cell) battery that sits flush with the back of the machine.

The dimensions on page 135 of the user manual indicate the 9-cell is 2.37 inches deep versus 1.93 inches for the 6-cell. So we can assume the M140/630m has the following dimensions with a 9-cell battery:

    Height: 38.6 mm (1.5 inches)
    Width: 330 mm (13 inches)
    Depth: 254.1 mm (10 inches)

    Hope this helps!

Yea if look look at the video on CNET, you can sorta see it. It doesnt bother me at all and i take it everywhere. its worth the extra battery life.
