Since it's the Most Popular Notebook rated in this web, How's the quality?

I know it has a very good price, but I don't want to buy a laptop can't last very long time.

    Any feedbacks?

    Thanks a lot!

For a Dell, I would say it is exceptionally well built. The best of the Inspiron line in my opinion (not saying much). It isn't an IBM or Asus, but I would trust it to last quite a while and serve you well. Dell's support on the other hand... well, I'm afraid that won't change no matter what model you get.

actually dell's support does change depending on the model.

if you buy a latitude, you get business class support, which is located in the US.

if you buy the XPS gaming machines (or whatever they're new name is), you get special, dedicated support with your own phone number and dedicated service reps.

to answer original poster's question, i have a 6000 i bought in feb/march of this year. i use it 7 days a week and take it with me to use elsewhere about 3/4 days a weeks. it's in the same condition that i bought it in. i am careful with it, but i don't think i do anything above 'common sense' handling practices; i use a case when i carry it, i don't throw it around, etc.

Actually, Dell's support is pretty good across the board. Last time I was on hold for only 10 minutes and they fixed the problem in about 20 minutes.

    Compare to HP/Compaq:
I was on hold for 3 hours, only to have them tell me within the first minute that it was Microsoft's problem and not theirs, and that they couldn't help me.

As for quality, I think it's on the higher end when compared with others out there, and the pricing is pretty good right now.

Who said? There are better makers than Dell like ThinkPads, Asus, Fujitsu to name a few. Without knowing what you are doing with it, hard to help.

zazons, I think he is referring to the left hand column presented on the website in the "home" section, titled "most popular notebooks" The inspiron 6000 is rated as the most popular notebook. Not sure where these are derived from, perhaps from votes.

The 6000 is an all around great laptop. It's build quality is satisfactory, even great in my opinion. It's just that when comparing it to a ThinkPad, it will feel cheaper. The 6000 isn't a cheap load of plastic though, as one might think when hearing people saying how the build quality is very low. The best thing you can do is go and see it yourself at a Dell kiosque.

Dell's are great machines, never mind the words from people who want to bash the brand even though they do not own a Dell and their only opinion comes from the fact they may have bought one and something was wrong so sent it back. Thus allowing them to feel as though their bad machine must mean all are bad.

I wish those people wopuld go to their own brand name forum here and read people saying the same things about quality and customer support that they feel Dell is only capable of.

Get a Dell, many Dells are some of the fastest, if not the fastest on the market. And the built quality is fine, that is unless you want to bash people over the head with it or use it as bullet proof protection, ie; IBM owners who have God like personalities.

It is my opinion that Dell’s laptops are not as well built as some others. I think some of their Latitudes are better than the Inspirons. I have seen and worked on most brands of PCs/Laptops. I think one can make an argument for Dell on price. You’ll get more specs for your dollar with a Dell. If you are buying a laptop Dell for a $900 or a Thinkpad for $1500 who do think has the money to buy better parts? Dell is one of the few in the PC industry that makes any money. They do that by squeezing margins. One of the things that gets squeezed is quality. If you can save $1 on a part that is of less quality and you ship millions of PCs every year it all adds up. People here ask for opinions, if you don’t like it, there is not much I can do about it.

Even though I was including you in my comments, there are many worse in this forum who seem to have the opinion that Dell is a piece of rubbish, and "love live" whatever brand they own.

I have used in my work IBM's, Dell's, Fujitsu's, HP, Compaq's. In my opinion and use, the performace varies, the Dell's I have bought have usually been high spec mashines and beat all other models I have used from other makers, and usually costing less than half the price, and the only difference I have seen is in the make of the case.

If people want to believe that spending an extra $1000 to get a metal case, or a LCD screen that closes the way you like is what turns you on, then go for it.

The LCD, motherboard, HD, optical drive, graphics card, memory, etc. are all from world class makers.

For that matter, on the 700m, I have yet to find a better looking screen on just about any other notebook.

I may not work for Dell, but it would be not a bad thing, they seem to be doing just about everything right in making money, and I get machines that are better than most, apart from maybe a metal shell.

Give the Inspiron 9300 a metal case or the Dell 700m, and you would have a notebook in my opinion would be on top of the pack.

Dont get me wrong i think IBms are GREAT laptops, but the only thing i find different about the two is the exterior and sturdiness. IBMs = built like a rock, but with that comes a very high price. Dells= Not so much built like a rock, but if you get the right one, its built near-ibm-quality.

The interior = To all my benchmarking my friends t42 vs my Dell i6000, with same specs, My dell runs faster, preforms better, and has some style. Not just a black box with lights and keys.

Yes you pay more with IBM , but its a business class laptop, you have to remember what the laptops will be used for.

You pay for that sturdiness. And imo its worth it if you carry your lappy around with you.

If you like the i6000 but want more style and extra sturdiness, check out the Latitude D810.

the new inspiron 6000 and 9300 are very good quality, much better than previous inspirons, they have magnesium alloy in the lcd lid and the chassis of the system so they are alot stiffer and durable, very well built and almost as good as say a thinkpad or the dell latitudes for business. IN fact my dell 9300 is better built, no flex at all as compared to toshibas, hps sony and compaqs at best buy, better than all of them!!
