Happy Holidays everyone!
I just purchased a i6000 with 1.86 GHZ, wireless b/g, 1280x800 screen, dvd burner drive and 60 gb 5400 hd for $800 including tax and shipping to California.
I like many aspects of my new laptop, however, I am very dissappointed with the screen. The fonts that I view on various websites don't look as good as they did on my old HP laptop that is seven years old! Perhaps I need to adjust the dpi. The default is 96. Also the screen doesn't have very good color saturation or clarity. Is the next Dell sceen upgrade, that much better?
Also the wireless card b/g doesn't always connect to my wireless router, unless I configure the WEP to a high encryption setting. A lower setting, and the card won't connect.
I am within my 21 day return time period with Dell, but don't you have to pay a 15% restocking fee if I return it?
Regretful,
JV

Be sure to enable ClearType. That will improve the font quality.

Thanks. I enabled true-type font curved edges.
The text still looks awful on all web pages! My Dell 19" flat screen at work looks fantastic. I just don't understand why the i6000 has such a crappy screen. I am wondering if it's related to Widescreen format screens. My 19" screen at work is conventional 4x3 format.
I don't know if I can live with this i6000 screen it's that bad!
The font looks washed out! The text looks like it has many shades of grey instead of black!
Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this?

rosevilleca,
Are you using Internet Explorer? If you are you might want to try downloading and trying Firefox. My IE texts looked weird when I got my I9300 and when I loaded in Firefox it looked better. Here is the site to download it:
http://www.mozilla.com/
Let me know how that works out. -
also make sure you are running max res of 1280x800. my brothers was set to 1024x768 when he first got it.

In addition to making sure that the display is in its native resolution, check to see if you have 32-bit color set.
-
can you post a screenshot?
-
Please see attached file. As you can see from the screen shot, the text in burgundy seems kind of fuzzy.
I did try loading firefox. I think text looks about the same in firefox as it does in IE.
I stopped by Best Buy tonight, and I was really impressed with the screens on the Sony laptops. These screens are amazing and side-by-side blow away the same screen and resolution laptops from Toshiba, Gateway, etc.
The only other laptops that had great screens is the Compaq Vesario 14.1" and the HP 14.1" laptop screens.

Looks ok to me.

yeah; like hn333 says, it looks fine to me.
can you maybe point to something in the screenshot that is an example of where your problem is? -
may be its just me but for me the text looks worse with "clear type". i dunno may be its the resolution (1440x990) but i think my screen is very crisp and sharp
btw i think your fonts looks OK to me too , may be you are just "too" used to your previous screen ? its like getting new glasses , it looks different at first
