Guy a work is willing to sell me his year 2000 Inspiron 3800 P3-500mhz for a very cheap (under $100) price..

Is it worth it? Only has 128mb ram. I'd like it for a backup solution to when I just need to surf the net and get basic online stuff (School and what not) work done. I'd also use it as a socks server, ftp server, and other small cpu cycle server type functions for the house so that I can keep my desktop shut down and save energy (electric bill is high because of my 550watt monster desktop).

    Thoughts? Good Linux testbox?

Get another stick of 128 RAM and that would be great. Obviously don't bother with Vista, but XP should run fine, just disable everything you don't need.

Linux might be better through :D

Ha, another stick of ram might cost more than the entire laptop itself ;)
