Hey guys does anyone know what I can use to replace my old 2100 Inspiron HD. It's currently running a "noisy" (well it wasn't but now it is) IBM-DSJA-220 IDE/ATA-66 I believe. Don't have the p/n handy. Also, does any know how to replace the screen hinges on this thing and how to remove the power ribbon from the screen hinge area so I can work in there. I've had this thing for years now and its been working great, just those two problems. [ :D]

    Thanks

holy crap, if this thing is still working i'd first of all call dell and tell them about this, they'll pay you thousands to be part of their marketing campaign to show how reliable their notebooks are or something...you'd be like one of those guys in GM truck commercials ("yup, my truck has 999,999 miles on it and still runs great").

then, use that money to buy a new notebook.

seriously though, i'm not sure how much you can do for this notebook, it sounds like it might need to be put out to pasture quite soon.

LOL thanks, I think...seriously I too am surprised it lasted this long especially since I the dang thing so much. I've actually found a replacement latch and figured out how to replace it the only thing I haven't done is find another HD. Maybe it'll last another year or two. Oh and I'll take a loaded XPS with 20" Flat Panel [ :D]

BTW: Is there anyplace I can go to learn about the IDE/ATA-XX differences and swapability of them.

    Thanks

So, if you have a 2100, and now the model line is 9100, how long ago did you buy this? It must've been ages.
