Hey everyone, I'm going to buy the 17R SE, I have a couple of questions that I'm curious about..

    1. I have 2 options

Add an SSD drive to use as the boot drive and add a 32GB mSATA to cache the 1TB drive. Question is it worth doing the cache using the mSATA bearing in mind I'll be partioning the 1TB drive so will it be worth doing the Cache. Alternatively would it be better to use the mSATA drive as the boot drive and save the second SATA III slot?? How much of a performance difference will it be?

    2. I really like the idea of a backlit keyboard but that configuration is no longer available from dell in the UK, how easy is it to track one down and fit it..

    3. This question isn't as important, Is it possible to buy protective sheilds like you can for phones for the screen and keyboard??

    1. How big is the SSD? What I would do is use SSD for programs/games etc., HDD for storage (so no garbage files on SSD at all). I'm not sure how the 5400rpm HDD will perform (I kinda hate 5400 drives by default if not for back-up), I had a 750Gb 7200rpm that did not need any mSATA. I wonder if it isn't cheaper to buy a 750Gb SSH and sell the 1Tb driver or use it in an external caddy as a back-up (where I live mSATA is rare and expensive, maybe it's not the same for you).

    2. Don't know.

    3. You don't need it.

Re 2 - lack of backlit keyboard option on dell UK web site.

I just checked Dell UK Official Site | Dell UK, and there aren't any 17R SE's with that option any more. Yet another inexplicable decision by Dell marketing ...

You have to be aware that some machines did not provide the secondary hdd bracket. The problem is that DELL does not have stocks to support customers that needed. Please make sure you press DELL sales to put the hdd bracket for you.

I learned from my painful experience.
