Hi friends,
I purchased dell inspiron 7720 17R SE with two 750 gb HDD installed with 32 gb msata for caching. Yesterday i purchased samsung 840 pro 256 gb ssd and cloned my c drive where os windows 8 preinstalled by samsung migration software. The cloning successfully completed and after that i restarted the notebook "operating system not found". The f2 and f12 keys are not function to entering the bios setup. I can not access the bios setup & the system will not boot and says operating system is missing. Not entering to bios setup to make any changes. Not able to boot from the win8 dvd and also from recovery usb drive. Please help me and tell me how to get the bios setup and boot from ssd or hdd.
Thanx in advance

Hi friends,
No reply from any of the experts of this forum. Yesterday visited dell carry in service center and the service people said there is a problem in the motherboard or some hardware, they are going to replace the same. Any body tell me is it possible to install SSD and install windows 8 on it from the recovery disk? I have the win8 pro upgrade dvd purchased from microsoft for my old noteboook (i'm not using it the hdd corrupted). Is it possible to install and activate win8 from this dvd on my new dell notebook. If possible, please tell me what are all the changes i have make in the BIOS because the 7720 comes with 32 GB mSATA for caching. Previously i've bricked my dell notebook by cloning the c:/ drive from samsung migration tool (not able to access BIOS and system will not boot the os windows) . Anybody please give a step by step procedure.

do i get it right........ C: stock spinning hard drive + Msata cache and
D: Samsung SSD (you still have Windows on spinning hard drive C: ?
what mode do you have on SATA operation inside BIOS, AHCi or intel smart technology ?
(instead of using 3rd part samsung cloning software....i would set up a proper RAID mode to reach either mirror or each by each (C: and D: )
i would start with this....put back your spinning hard drive on D: (stock set up)....see if you now can reach F12 or F2........it pretty obvious something went wrong inside BIOS or "Windows" during the cloning process with your SSD.
i think its strange you even cant do a reboot with your recovery CD ! (you should be able to do that)
..............if absolute nothing works...you can try to loose/put back the Coin battery inside 7720 motherboard (it will reset some of BIOS ground features) -
Thanx KSMB,
I handed over my laptop to Dell Carry in Service center to solve the issue. They told that there is some hardware problem (motherboard). After repair i want to install SSD and windows 8 clean install on it. I've recovery flash drive snd also DVD from microsoft. Purchased for my previous old laptop now not using because HDD currupted and motherboard also not functioning. Please tell me what changes i have to made in the BIOS and precautions to be taken not to currupt the BIOS. My notebook has a mSATA 32 gb installed for caching. If i install ssd and windows on the ssd, is it necessary to install mSATA. Thanx in advance.

Do this instead. Becuase you have the 840 samsung ssd ...........put the SSD into C: and have windows as usual. Then cache up D: (750gb) hard drive With your 32gb MSata
Then you at least have use for your MSata Ssd.
Though...........
IF you had a ordinary slower SSD i would instead had that SSD in D: becuase i rate Intel rapid storage higher. -
I had this same issue. Only way to resolve it was to enter the BIOS and change the boot order. Once you install the Samsung 840, the system will create another "Windows Boot Manager" option at the bottom of the boot order list. Once I moved that to the top spot on the boot menu, the laptop came right up. (Now I have an entirely different issue with laptop freezing intermittently for no reason but that's another thread on its own! Hope this helps
PS. You will need to use F12 and select the setup option from the menu if F2 isn't working for you.
