    Hello people

Ive actually joined the forum due to the specific problem Im experiencing right now, Im at my wits end.

Ive had so many different opinions from different sources I thought it would be best to come on here to get some help from experienced people. Im sure there are threads already about this topic but I don't understand all the technical stuff.

I was using my laptop and nothing seemed out of the ordinary, when suddenly it just switched off by itself. I rebooted it and ran self diagnostics. The message appeared: 'error 2000 - 0141' 'no drive detected'

The laptop is still in warranty so Dell have said they will take it away and repair any faults. However, as the fault seems to be the hard drive, they will simply replace it.

My first question is what are the chances of any data still being on the hard drive?, and secondly can it be recovered?

    I appreicate any help

Are you able to enter the diagnostic boot? I would try removing the hard drive and reconnecting it to the notebook. I have also seen suggestions to do the same with the optical drive. If you want you can use an external enclosure and attach it to another computer to copy the data to it.

Like I said I have no idea about all the technical stuff. Im thinking of taking it to pc world and use their data recovery service. Ive already had someone take the hard drive out and put it back in and that had no effect.

Data recovery would be extremely expensive. You should just try putting it in an external enclosure and connecting it to another computer.
