Okay, my mom's laptop which is a studio inspiron 1721 from summer 2007 was working fine last night, we just received the new 9 cell battery and a new charging adapter because the dog had its way with it. Today she started it up and the space bar would not work, I popped it off and cleaned anything that was underneath it and noticed the small rubber thing that flexes down and up is halfway torn off causing the key to be slightly recessed. This was not noticeable last night at all.

Come to find out the whole row of keys that the space bar is in will not work, nor will some of the keypad keys, or the main enter key.

Any ideas? It's not under warranty anymore.

Keyboard took a dump. Keyboard reliability issues are common with the 1720/1721 Inspirons. It's only a ~45$ Part, just replace it.
