My friend heard of exploits with what I did to my Inspiron 1520 and asked me to look at his older 1720 (bought second hand). He had already sold the screen I assume because it wasn't there! So I connected it through an external monitor and all I keep getting is that it boots straight to the Dell Diagnostics Mode.
Despite my efforts of putting in a Windows 7 CD in the DVD Drive (it just won't recognize it). What will happen is that it'll try to boot to the dell diagnostic mode again and then arrive at a blank screen until it starts beeping and loudly might I add.
Perhaps you guys could give me some tips as to how I should go about fixing this.

Further Information:
I was actually able to determine that the laptop was unable to boot and went black on the monitor as long as the LCD was left open.
Once closed and an external keyboard was connected, upon running diagnostics it gave me these errors in the following order:
1. Hardware Error : Keyboard not detected.
2. Hardware Error : Power button board not detected.
3. Hardware Error : Inverter not detected.
4. Unable to detect LCD
5. Error Accessing LCD
At least 3 of these 5 errors I can explain because the laptop actually doesn't have a LCD panel or a working inverter attached to it.
And the keyboard is probably related to the fact that its second hand and pretty beat up. I have spare lying around so i'll have to test that out.
The problem I'm having at the moment is determining how to fix the undetected power button. Anyone know how I can go about replacing/testing that? -

Hi Mihael Keehl,
It seems like there are a few issues with the internal connection. The components which are listed with error codes are either faulty or not connected to the Motherboard as required. Please use the link mentioned below to View/Download the Service Manual of the Inspiron 1720. You can refer to the same link in order to check and confirm if the components are connected accordingly.
Documentation
Also, the reason why the system constantly boots through the Diagnostic boot, is either because the Hard Drive is faulty or is not being detected (Connection failure). Please try connecting an external keyboard through the USB port. As soon as you turn on the system, start tapping ‘F2’ to get to the BIOS screen. If you are able to view the BIOS page please check if the Hard Drive is being detected in the BIOS. You may also try to load the BIOS defaults by pressing “F9”.
I hope this helps. Please do write back in case you need any further assistance on the same.
Thanks & Regards
