I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 1720, at first it was very quiet but now the level of noise has got annoying. The hard disk makes too much noise and there are other noises which are evident when the laptop is on. Whilst the Laptop is charging when it is OFF it also makes squaky noises, the same type of noise is also heard when the Laptop is on Sleep.

Try to get rid of some processes running in the back that are not needed in order to lower HD volume.

The "squaky noise" is most likely the fan being clogged up by dust. Check out cooling central and look under cleaning your fans for detail on how to clean out your fans.

all i know is that the hard disk makes a vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv sound when it is on and noise is emitted from the laptop when it is OFF and charging.

I am guessing the fan doesnt turn off. Try updating the bios, might work.

If the Notebook was bought within the past 30days you can ask dell for a replacement/refund.
