I have a dell inspiron 1720 that I bought about 3 to 4 years ago. Recently it started to run poorly so I just ran the usual virus scan and malware and spyware scans as well as cleaning the normal cookies, history, and all that to see if I can get it back to running normal and then the other day when I started it up it came to the load screen for windows and it says microsoft and the loading bar and it just sits there and goes no further. I am wondering if anyone can tell me how to fix this. I am pretty good with computers and electronics so if someone could give me some direction I could probably figure it out. Also could the computer be toast? Should I just buy a new one and forget it? I have had a bunch of problems with this laptop since I got it and I will never get another dell I just dont have the money right now to get another so if I can fix it I would rather do that. Thanks in advance.

I would first run Dell Diagnostics and see if your drive is in tip top shape.

If it passes that, then hook up your drive to another computer and run chkdsk /r on the drive.
